“The Rhetoric of Food” Units III & IV Overview – Fall 2012

 

For your research project, you will be assigned one of three topics. This project will comprise the next 2 Units:

1. Do a class presentation (Unit III)

2.  You will do research on the topic and create an annotated bibliography (Unit III)

3. Write a 750-900 word research-based essay on your topic (Unit IV).

** Expect a separate assignment handout for each of Units III and IV.  There will be numerous handouts posted in course content to help guide you as you work on your projects.

 

First, we will begin by allowing you to draw “from a hat” one of the following three topics:

1.       GMO: Just Say No

2.       Where’s the “Food” in Fast Food? 

3.       Livin’ La Vida Locavore

During the course of this project we will have workshops on library research, how to do an annotated bibliography, MLA citation and documentation of library sources, as well as do peer review on these projects.

 

The calendar of events will go something like this:

Week of 22Oct:  Unit III & IV Introduction [Annotated bibliography and presentation] – group project selection, film, reading assignments, library workshop, class discussion

                                               

Week of 29Oct:  Library workshop, group work projects, class discussion, annotated bib workshop,

 

Week of 05Nov:  Group work projects, readings/discussion/research

 

Week of 12Nov:  Group work on projects, readings/discussion/research

 

Week of 19Nov:  Peer draft annotated bib; Unit III ann. bib due; THANKSGIVING

 

Week of 26Nov: Class presentations of project; work on Unit IV – Food Essay, reading/writing homework

 

Week of 03Dec  Unit IV due, preparation for final exam

 

Week of 10Dec: FINAL EXAMS!!
