INVITATION TO PRESENT TABLE CLINICS

The Chattanooga Area Dental Assistants Society wishes to invite students currently enrolled in Dental Assistant educational programs to present a table clinic and to compete city wide for cash prizes!

A table clinic is an informal 5‐8 minute table‐top presentation using oral communication (verbal presentation) and visual media aids (display board, handout, brochure, laptop, hands‐on participation, demonstration, etc) to inform, clarify or review material on a certain topic. A table clinic should contain helpful and current information which will enhance the knowledge of the attendees.

Local competition – each school may host their own local competition. Each school will determine the date, time and location of their event, how the local competition will be judged and if prizes are to be awarded. The top presenters from each school will advance to the City Competition.

City Competition – an equal number of top winners from each school, for a total of 6 presenters, will participate in the City competition, held in conjunction with the Monthly meeting of the Chattanooga Area Dental Assistants Society. Attendees can attend six table clinics and receive 1.0 hour of continuing education credit. Judges will award cash prizes to the top three presenters.

Please notify the CADAS Table Clinic Coordinator of the names of the students who will be participating in the City competition byFebruary 26, 2010.

Location: Chattanooga State Community College, Lobby

Date: March 4, 2010

Times:
Set up 5:30 pm;
Social time 6:00 pm (Free pizza!)
Table Clinics from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Presentation of awards 7:30 pm

HOW TABLE CLINICS ARE JUDGED

The City Competition will be judged by practicing dental professionals as follows:

o Topic (appropriate, value to dentistry, current, relevant)
o Research (thorough, sources cited)
o Communication skills/oral presentation effectiveness
o Voice Quality: Volume; Clarity of speech
o Vocabulary appropriate to audience
o Body language (posture, gestures, eye contact)
o Time of oral presentation (5‐8 minutes)
o Quality of visual media aids (display board, handout, brochure, laptop, hands‐on participation, demonstration, etc)
o Presentation informs and clarifies topic
o Presentation engages attendee and enhances knowledge of attendee
o Presentation was technically accurate and contained current information
o Presenter was knowledgeable of subject (Q & A)
o Presenter was dressed appropriately (uniform, business attire, or other appropriate clothing)

Neither the table clinic nor the presenter should be identified by school name.
