"The Rhetoric of Food” Units II - IV Overview – Spring 2013

 

For your research project, you will be assigned one of four topics. This project will comprise the next 2 Units:

1. In-class essay (Unit II)

2.  Group presentation/Annotated Bibliography (Unit III)

3. Research Paper (Unit IV)

** Expect a separate assignment handout for each of Units III and IV.  There will be numerous handouts posted in course content to help guide you as you work on your projects.

First, we will begin by allowing you to draw “from a hat” one of the following three topics:

1.       GMO: Just Say No

2.       Where’s the “Food” in Fast Food? 

3.       Livin’ La Vida Locavore

During the course of this project we will have workshops on library research, how to do an annotated bibliography, MLA citation and documentation of library sources, as well as have peer review on these projects.

The calendar of events:

Week of 18Feb:  Unit III & IV Introduction, reading assignments, class discussion                                               

Week of 25Feb:  Group/topic selection, reading assignments,

Week of 4March:  Readings/discussion, in-class workshop, Unit II in-class essay

Week of 11March:  SPRING BREAK!

Week of 18March:  Library workshop, annotated bib workshop, Group work on projects; 

Week of 25March: MLA workshop, group work on reading/writing homework; peer review annotated bib

Week of 01April: Unit III Ann bib due, Group work/class discussion, class presentations of project

Week of 8April: MLA workshop, in-class work on Annotated bib, Humanities Celebration

Week of 15April: Readings, discussion, in-class work on Unit IV research project

Week of 22April: peer review, Unit IV due, intro to final exam

Week of 29April: Readings/class discussion, prepare for final exam

Week of 06May:  Final Exams
