Assignment Description

 

Assignment:  Students will be doing research on two papers. The first paper focuses on individual novels which they have chosen and for which they will be examining and writing critically about theme, characterization, symbolism, or how plot events affect character and theme.  The novels chosen are:  

  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Catch 22
  • Brave New World
  • Slaughterhouse Five
  • The Testament (Grisham)
  • Screwtape Letters
  • Heart of Darkness
  • Death on the Nile
  • Birdsong
  • Lord of the Flies
  • Time Traveler’s Wife
  • 1984
  • As I Lay Dying 

The second paper will be an examination of Susan Glaspell's play Trifles. A film version and a radio broadcast are available to watch and listen to as introductions to the play itself.
